Tip #1 – Vacuuming
Vacuuming
One of the easiest ways to keep your carpets clean is regular vacuuming. Carpet manufacturers actually recommend doing seven passes with a typical vacuum in order to thoroughly remove the loose soil from the carpet. Since you may not have time to vacuum all the rooms in your home seven times, vacuuming 1-3 times a week will help reduce carpet wear, keep the floor cleaner, and help the carpet last longer.
You can sprinkle some cinnamon on the floor and vacuum it up to have a natural air freshener each time you vacuum.
Tip #2 – Reducing Dust
Reducing Dust
You can purchase small air purifiers for an individual room. However, if you want to have your entire home’s air cleansed, there are electrostatic filters for your furnace. These types of filters actually use static cling to pull the dust particles out of the air.
Regularly vacuuming will help reduce the amount of dust in your home. Dust actually accumulates in the carpet and vacuuming often will remove the dust from the carpet. Calling a professional carpet cleaning company also helps remove dirt and dust from your carpet.
Tip #3 – Caring for Upholstery
Caring for Upholstery
You’ve spent the time and money to pick out a new couch, loveseat, and maybe even a new recliner. What can you do to keep them clean in between professional cleanings?
Keeping the upholstered furniture clean isn’t very difficult. First, try to keep the seat and back clean. Keeping pets off the cushions as much as possible will reduce the amount of hair. One thing people forget to use are the headrest and armrest covers. If you have a habit of setting your feet on the couch, that’s okay, just realize that it will cause it to get dirtier faster. Another habit is eating in front of the TV, the crumbs that are spilled onto the furniture will get rubbed into the fibers.
Spills do happen and you can’t stop living your life because you want the furniture to look perfect. If there are crumbs, pet hairs, or spills, clean them up as soon as possible. Vacuuming the upholstery on a regular basis along with the carpet will help keep it cleaner longer.
Your furniture, just like carpet, gets dirty and needs to be cleaned professionally. Depending on children and pets, we recommend having your upholstery cleaned in your home every 1 – 3 years. For businesses, we recommend yearly.
Tip #4 – Caring for Hardwood Floors
Caring for Hardwood Floors
Sweep often. Use a regular broom or a dry micro-fiber mop to sweep the floor. The dirt and sand that inevitably accumulates on the floor acts like sandpaper and will scratch the floor. Floor mats at the entrance to your home is another way to help collect or trap some dirt and prevent it from damaging the wood floor.
As with any type of flooring, cleaning spills up quickly will help prevent damage. If water is allowed to sit on the hardwood over an extended period of time, it will cause water stains, warping, or buckling. Use floor mats in areas where water is more prone to drip or spill onto the floor, such as in front of the sink.
When choosing a mat to place on your wood floors, do not use a mat with a rubber backing. The rubber can stain the floor.
Even though you sweep often and wipe up spills, there will come a time when your wood floor needs something more. Be careful when using over the counter cleaners. They can create a build up on the floor that only stripping the floor or sanding can remove. A professional cleaning once a year will help extend the life of your wood floors.
Tip #5 – Professional Carpet Cleaning
Professional Carpet Cleaning
After spending $10 – $50 a square foot to purchase carpet and have it installed, why do we wait so long to take care of it? On average, people clean their carpets every seven years.
If you will clean your carpets once a year, you will not only breathe better, your carpet will last longer. If you have children and/or pets, it may need to be cleaned more often.
Tip #6 Maintenance of Tile and Grout
Maintenance of Tile and Grout
When tile and grout is installed, the grout cannot be sealed until it is dry – which can take up to a month. Therefore, most grout is never sealed. This allows dirt, grease and grime to seep into the grout over time.
After you have had as professional clean and seal your tile and grout, the easiest way to keep it clean is to wipe it down immediately after each use. If there is a spill, wipe it up as soon as you can. After a shower, be sure to squeegee the tile to keep the moisture and soap build up to a minimal.
We recommend having your tile and grout cleaned and resealed about 3 years.
